Synopsis:
Dexter receives a new game called "Master Computer" from his Dad to play with Dee Dee. But after losing, he gets pulled into The Grid where he must face the Master Computer and get help from Dee Dee to defeat it.
Background:
With Tron being talked about again with the release of Tron: Ares, I have decided to do an edit of a TV episode which parodies it. In this case, the Season 1 Episode 7 segment of Dexter's Laboratory "Game Over". It's a short edit, but it may be one I might continue doing at some point in the future. The episode features many nods to Tron like the Master Control Program (Master Computer in the episode), the lightcycles, Dexter's suit being reminiscent to Tron's, and of course the environment being taking place in a digital world similar to The Grid. There are many TV episodes that dedicate the story to pay homages to certain franchises like Star Wars, and I thought it would be interesting to try one out, but for Tron. The edit adds in Wendy Carlos' score and lightcycle sound effects. In addition is the titles being redone in the style of the original 1982 film. In the future, I would like to do more of these edits since I have grown up with some of them and like to put a spin on them using music and sounds from the film's they're pay homage too.
Goals:
To rescore portions of the episode with Wendy Carlos' score and use some sound effects (like the lightcycle sounds and the MCP sounds) from that film.
Change List:
• Added Starlight Fan Edits logo with an arcade theme to it (Music is taken from the 1982 Tron arcade game and the font is the same one used in the film).
• Added Starlight Fan Edits logo with an arcade theme to it (Music is taken from the 1982 Tron arcade game and the font is the same one used in the film).
• Added some brief opening titles and the title "Dexter in the Grid". A lot of the titles have been redone with the Tron credits font.
• Removed some of the original music throughout the episode.
• Wendy Carlos' tracks "Break In (For Strings, Flutes, and Celesta)" and "Ring Game and Escape" are used in the scenes of Dexter explaining how the game is old and them playing the game in the lab.
• Used "Wormhole" in the scene where the Master Computer is unleashed and sends Dexter into the digital world (which I would refer to as The Grid).
• A scene from Tron (1982) is used to show the entry into The Grid. It's rendered in 480p to match the episode's original quality for consistent sake. If an HD restoration were to be released, this will be updated.
• Used the track "We've Got Company" when Dexter faces the Master Computer in The Grid. Some sound effects have been removed.
• Used SFX of the lightcycles from Tron (1982) when Dexter rides one.
• Removed some of the original music in the scene of Dee Dee receiving Dexter's message.
• Used the music track "Anthem" for the episode's ending.
• End credits have been added with font used in the Tron credits and Wendy Carlos' Theme from the film playing over.
